ST. JOHN'S MESSIAH

A MUSICAL DRAMA

THE STORY

Jesus was a complex being, straddling two distinct worlds - the world of humans and the world of God.

He had superhuman powers, an uncompromising heart, an enchanting personality.

He comprised all the virtues of the most charismatic characters of all time.

He has been portrayed on stage and in film countless times throughout the centuries.

From spectaclar passion plays in the Middle Ages to legendary Hollywood productions in the 1960s.

From Oscar winners like Ben Hur and The Greatest Story Ever Told to grim and graphic epitaphs like

The Passion of the Christ by famed actor, Mel Gibson. And most recently in the

Angel Studios series, The Chosen with all it's realism and poignance and gripping storytelling

But let's not forget about the great musicals of the 70s - Jesus Christ Superstar

and Godspell. Because that's where we come into the picture.

It's time for a new one of those!

But this one is different. John the Apostle is living in Ephesus.

He's a hundred years old and still hasn't written his gospel!

The entire Christian world is holding its breath.

Why the delay? Will he make it in time?

Finally John's grandson arrives from Alexandria

to help him, and finds a man racked with guilt and self-contempt.

In the end, and in the nick of time, John's beautiful gospel comes to life

in the form of a soaring, inspiring and evocative soundtrack.

The story begins with John's dream of a long-awaited birth in the tiny hamlet of Bethlehem, Judea.

THE SONGS

The songs tell the joyous and tormented story of

Jesus the Messiah, from birth to death and beyond.

While John's scenes are expressed only through dialogue,

Jesus' narrative is driven exclusively by music.

The songs are varied - from raging rockers to sweet melodic ballads;

from frenzied brawls to laments that break the sensitive heart.

PRODUCER DISCLAIMER

These songs are demos only. When you listen, please imagine the vocals

being sung by big-league performers who grab you by the soul and don't let go.

And imagine producers who bring it all together onstage and in the pit,

and then present it to the audience through seductive whispers and breathtaking roars.

STAGECRAFT

From Satan's Throne to the River Jordan; from the streets of Jerusalem to the summit of Golgotha, the stage supports a wide variety of sets and backdrops.  A video wall provides all the backgrounds, allowing a depth and motion to the stage uncommon in most musicals.

Above the video wall backdrop are two more large screens, stage left and right. They broadcast the entire play as a movie, complete with closeups, multiple angles, and on-stage movement from actors wearing small headworn cameras.  (There are also cameras onstage and in the wings.)

John's room is a thrust that dollies on and off the stage as needed. The room's only window shows action on the street outside when the shades are open.

Sound, video, lighting, and staging are fully choreographed and rehearsed.
